Strategies

The bot has a set of buy conditions: rules that decide when to buy. Each one reacts to a different market situation. One buys a dip, another a trend pullback or a breakout. Selling is handled by a built-in exit system that decides when to take profit or cut a position down. The conditions run side by side, so the bot catches different kinds of opportunities instead of depending on one rule. You can leave everything as it is, or switch individual conditions on or off yourself in "Manage Bot" under "Your own strategy". Every change is your own choice; the bot gives no advice. A demo bot runs all conditions in paper mode (no real money). Its results are what you see on the index and pricing pages.

The 100 most-traded EUR pairs on Bitvavo, refreshed every 30 minutes. Before a coin makes the list it has to pass a few safety checks:

Not on the blacklist (stablecoins, leveraged tokens and coins with known problems) · a buy/sell spread of at most 0.8% · listed for at least 60 days · a price that moved between 3% and 95% over the last 3 days (not dead flat, not wild).

If a coin drops out of the list while you hold it, the bot keeps managing that position until it is sold. It just won't buy it again.

💡 You can narrow this down further with your own whitelist in Manage Bot.
⚙️

Settings

The bot keeps settings simple by default: its own built-in buy conditions and exit cascade decide when to enter and exit, so there's nothing to tune there unless you want to. The two settings everyone sets are trade amount (total budget) and max positions (how many positions at once). Budget is split equally across your max positions, with a minimum of €35 per position. If you want more control, "Manage Bot" has a "Strategy" section with a "Your own" mode: switch individual buy conditions off, turn the built-in safety net on or off, add a stop loss, cap how long a position can stay open, or free a slot for a new signal when your book is full. None of this is required. It exists so you can shape the bot's behaviour to your own risk appetite instead of relying on our judgment.

Every buy and sell pays Bitvavo's trading fee, usually 0.25% per trade. The bot takes the fee into account when it decides whether a trade is in profit.

💡 The Avg PnL shown on the index and stats pages already includes fees. What you see is the net return.

Limit orders. A buy is placed at the current asking price, a sell at the current bid. That means you never pay more than the price the bot saw, and never sell for less.

If an order isn't (completely) filled, the bot waits up to 3 minutes for a buy and 2 minutes for a sell, then cancels the rest. What was filled is kept; a sell that didn't go through is simply tried again.

💡 Before, the bot used market orders. On thin order books those sometimes cost 1-2% extra. Limit orders prevent that.

Max Positions controls how many positions the bot can hold at once. Your budget is divided equally, with a minimum of €35 per position required. Below that, the built-in safety net can't sell off partial amounts (Bitvavo's own €5 minimum order size gets in the way), so a position under €35 has no step-by-step protection on the way down.

€500 trade amount · 10 positions → €50 per position €250 trade amount · 10 positions → ❌ €25 per position is too low
💡 10 positions is a solid default, and it's also the minimum for DCA (see below).

No. An empty whitelist means the bot trades from its standard list of the 100 most-traded coins (see "Which coins does the bot trade?"). This is fine to start with.

A whitelist only makes sense once you have data on which coins perform well for your settings. Then you can focus the bot on proven coins.

💡 Wait for at least 20-30 trades per coin before drawing conclusions.

Over time, your stats will show which coins consistently perform well. Give those coins a higher weight in the whitelist so the bot allocates more budget to proven performers.

BTC-EUR: 45 trades · +0.8% · 88% win → weight 2x HUMA-EUR: 12 trades · +1.2% · 83% win → weight 3x XRP-EUR: 30 trades · -0.2% · 65% win → remove from whitelist

Weight 2x = double budget per position, but also uses double the slot count from Max Positions.

💡 Stats page = your own bot data. Index page = ghost bot data. Use both together for the best decisions.

DCA means the bot buys more of a position as its price drops, in small steps, so the average buy price goes down. It is off by default and only switches on if you turn it on yourself (Manage Bot, "Your own strategy").

It's available on every plan, in paper and in live, once you run 10 or more positions with at least €35 per position. With DCA on, positions from the rebuy conditions start with a smaller first buy (a quarter), which leaves room for the extra buys and for other trades.

DCA puts more of your budget to work, but also more of it at risk: one position can grow to several times its normal size.

💡 DCA doesn't make a bad trade good. It uses cash that would otherwise sit idle.

Index page

The index page is a live model and scenario tool. It shows how the ghost bot performs across different strategies and settings. It is done entirely in paper mode, with no real money involved. Use it as a reference (which strategies are working?), a decision tool (which strategies should I enable?), and a comparison against your own bot. It's not a guarantee of your results because your bot can have its own whitelist, settings and timing.

Avg PnL is the average return per closed trade, including fees. +0.86% means the bot averages 0.86% net profit per trade.

Win rate is the percentage of trades that close positively. 86% win rate = 86 out of 100 trades are profitable.

Win rate and avg PnL together tell the full story. A high win rate with a negative avg PnL means the losing trades are too large.

💡 The * next to Avg PnL means fees are already included. What you see is the net return.

Here's how to get the most out of the index:

  • Find conditions with positive avg PnL and a win rate above 80%
  • Use the "vs BTC" column to see which conditions actually beat just holding Bitcoin
  • Look at the number of trades: a result from 10 trades says little, one from 200 says more
💡 The ghost bot and your bot run independently. Your results may differ due to your own whitelist and budget.

The green LIVE indicator shows whether the ghost bot is currently active and collecting data. If it's grey, the bot is temporarily offline.

Results are updated as the ghost bot closes trades.

Stats & Positions

The stats page shows an overview of all closed trades from your bot. You can see per strategy and per coin how many trades were made, the average profit and the win rate. The positions page shows all currently open positions with the entry price, current price, unrealised profit/loss and the strategy that opened the position. You can also manually sell a position from this page. Together these two pages give you a complete picture of how your bot is performing and what's currently open.

The stats page shows all closed trades from your bot. You can filter by period (via reset moments), strategy and coin.

Use it to identify which coins consistently perform well for your account and fine-tune your whitelist accordingly.

💡 Filter by period using reset moments to see how your bot performs after a settings change.

The positions page shows all currently open positions. You can see the entry price, current price, unrealised P&L and the strategy that opened the position.

You can also manually sell a position from here. The bot will execute the sale via Bitvavo.

💡 Manual sells send a signal to the bot. The bot executes the sale and it may take a few seconds before the position disappears.

Almost certainly not. This strategy is built to win often (most trades close in profit within hours), and that comes with the opposite side: a small number of positions sit well underwater before recovering, closing, or being trimmed by the safety net.

Based on the bot's actual trading history, only 3.7% of positions ever drop this deep — most close well above that.

A position that drops sharply doesn't mean it stays there: the built-in safety net sells off part of the position in steps as it drops further (visible as a small 📉 badge), and it's designed to give a real dip room to recover rather than panic-sell at the first sign of red.

💡 With only a handful of trades, one bad early position can make your average look much worse than it will over time. Judge results over weeks and dozens of trades, not days.

The two pages complement each other:

  • Positions → what's open right now? Which positions have been open a long time?
  • Stats → which coins and strategies structurally perform well?

Use stats to tune your whitelist: coins that consistently perform well get a higher weight, coins that consistently underperform get removed.

💡 Combine with the index page: index shows ghost bot data, stats shows your own bot data.

General

Jean-Fa-Jean is a trading bot for Bitvavo. A Dutch crypto exchange. The bot trades automatically in EUR pairs based on technical indicators. Your money always stays in your own Bitvavo account. The bot only has access via an API key to place orders. It can and will never withdraw or transfer funds. You remain in full control at all times.

V2.0 is a complete rebuild of the bot's buy/sell rules, not a small update. In backtests over the same year, V2.0 traded more selectively and kept losses smaller than the previous version.

Because it was such a big change, every account ran paper trading only for several months first, with zero risk, while V2.0 proved itself in real market conditions. Live trading is open again since September 2026. You decide when (or whether) to switch it on for your own account.

💡 Backtests are never a guarantee. Paper and live run as two separate bots on your account (see "Can I test the bot in paper mode?" below), so you can keep watching paper results even after going live.

The ghost bot is a paper trading instance that runs continuously in the background. It tests all available conditions simultaneously with simulated money, so no real orders are placed.

New conditions are tested in the ghost bot first, over a full market cycle, before being considered for live trading.

You can see the ghost bot results on the index page, and a bot per plan on the pricing page.

💡 The ghost bot uses the same market data as your live bot. Results are a realistic indicator of what strategies are working right now.

Yes. Paper trading is free and has no budget limit. For live trading there are four plans, based on how much you trade with:

Free (€0/mo): up to €250
Basic (€0.99/mo): up to €2,000
Pro (€6.99/mo): up to €5,000
Plus (€14.99/mo): no limit
Or pay yearly and get 1 month free.

Every plan has the same bot, all buy conditions and all settings, including DCA and the "Your own strategy" panel. The pricing page shows a paper bot running at each plan's settings.

💡 Start for free and upgrade once you see the bot performing well. No commitment required.

Currently Bitvavo is supported. Bitvavo is a Dutch exchange with low fees (0.15-0.25%) and a wide range of EUR pairs.

💡 Use an API key with only "Read" and "Trade" permissions. Never give withdrawal rights to a bot API key.

Nothing. Your funds stay in your own Bitvavo account. The bot only has API access to place orders. If the bot stops, open positions remain open on Bitvavo.

You can manually sell any open position at any time from the Positions page, no need to leave the site or log into Bitvavo yourself.

💡 Always stop the bot via the dashboard so that ongoing trades are properly handled.

Yes, and it's the default. Your dashboard has two tabs, Paper and Live: two separate bots with their own settings, budget and history. The Paper bot simulates every trade with no real money and needs no API key.

You can run just Paper, just Live, or both side by side. Switching one on or off never touches the other's history.

💡 Most people run Paper for a while first to see how the bot performs before adding a real API key on the Live tab.

Your API key and secret are encrypted before they're ever saved, and only decrypted in memory for the brief moment the bot needs to place an order. Nobody can read them back out in plain text, including us.

You can remove your stored key at any time from the Live tab in Manage Bot. This stops the live bot immediately if it's running.

💡 Use an API key with only "Read" and "Trade" permissions, never "Withdraw". Even if a key were ever exposed, it could never move funds out of your account.

Yes. Every subscriber gets their own referral code on the Refer a friend page. A friend who uses it gets 10% off their first payment, and you get 20% of what they pay (after fees) back as account credit, on every payment they make (monthly or yearly) for as long as they stay subscribed.

💡 The referral page only appears once you have an active paid subscription, since the reward is credited against your own next invoice.

The status page shows whether market data, the signal engine, the trading bots and Bitvavo are working. It refreshes every minute.

💡 If something is wrong with your own bot, a red message appears at the top of the page (see below).

That appears when your bot hit a problem in the last 24 hours, for example an order Bitvavo refused, or a difference between your bot and your Bitvavo account.

Click "Send this to support". That sends the message and your recent bot log to us, so we can look into it. You can hide a message with the ×.

You get a choice: sell everything first and then reset, or start fresh and leave the positions on Bitvavo (the bot then no longer manages them).

💡 Resetting paper is always safe: no real money is involved.

A friend who already subscribes has their own referral code. No friend with a code? Click "Ask for a promo code" on the upgrade page, and subscribers on Discord can reply with theirs. A code gives 10% off your first payment.

Yes. In the settings on your dashboard you can turn on push notifications (per device) and connect your own Discord channel.

💡 On iPhone, push notifications only work after you add the site to your home screen.

Use the Contact form, or join the Discord server. Both work whether or not you're logged in.
